Gyotaku by Shane Hamamoto

Gyotaku translated means fish impression, an ancient Japanese art to illustrate the true image of prized fishes caught by fisherman.

A detailed, mirrored image of the fish is created when non-toxic, water based ink is applied directly onto the fish, then pressed onto a sheet of Shoji paper. The fish can then be rinsed and remains perfectly edible.

Shane enjoys fishing and spearfishing. He has conveyed his love of the ocean and its creatures onto each individual Gyotaku print. In each piece, Shane replicates the true colors and composition of the fishes as seen in all his diving adventures.

Braddah Shane encourages everyone to take only what is necessary and conserve our precious ocean resources. 🎣🐟
